The Rescue of Lily, Josie and Billy Galahad
- an excerpt

… Lily and Josie look at me through the bars.
My heart is still pounding from all that had just
happened. “Hold on little ones… just a little bit longer.”  They look good though, despite it all.  Both
of them have a bright light in their eyes and before I leave something amazing happens.
Lily who seems to be the protector of her smaller sister, steps bravely forward.  Despite the
less than ideal surroundings - at least we were out of the icy rain - Lily seems to be completely at
ease, as if she understands it all.  In her bright and curious and even bold and perfect eyes is a
message; the resiliency of spirit and a perfect strength and courage which can overcome all with
love.   Almost as if it were being spoken I hear her say with complete calm, happily “We’re good.  This
is great.  We are great.  Thanks…” and a happy smile.  She then did something astonishing : My little
goats have a show of affection - they will hold their paw out to me, wanting to hold hands and when I
take their outstretched hoof into my hand their faces become serene and peaceful and … lovingly
content.
Well little Lily ‘lo, the starving wild baby goat, not far from death at the hands of humans only
hours ago, whom I had only known for a few hours, came right to the front of the kennel gate, as
close to me as she could and I bent down to her and looking at me with those perfect beautiful bright
eyes, Lily put her paw out for me to hold.
